Dinesh Chandimal Biography
Dinesh Chandimal is a young Sri Lankan wicket-keeper batsman. He is one of the most promising newcomers of the country. He is appreciated for his technically sound batting style and his ability to score all around the ground. He has got a safe hands behind the wickets. His temperament and maturity at a very young age makes him different and unique. His maturity can be seen the way he builds up an innings and gives pace to it.
Dinesh Chandimal had an interest in cricket since the teenage times. He started playing for his college Dhamasoka and later moved to Ananda College to captain the under 17 team. As a first class cricketer he played for Sri Lanka Cricket Development XI scoring two centuries as a Vice-Captain. He also plays ODI and Twenty20 cricket for Schools Invitation XI. Chandimal had a bad start of his cricketing career, he gave his under-13 trial as a bowler who can also bat but was rejected because of the controversial bowling action. Though he came out of the trauma and switched to wicket-keeping. He idolizes Romesh Kaluwitharana and that is clearly visible from his attacking batting style.
He made the international debut in Twenty20 World Cup in 2010 against New Zealand in the group stages. After that he went on the make his ODI debut against Zimbabwe in a tri-series. He scored his maiden ODI century in the same tournament against India scoring 111 of just 118 balls helping his side to win the match and eliminating India from the tournament. Dinesh Chandimal also holds the record of the youngest Sri Lankan cricketer to score the international century. He also made his Test debut for Sri Lanka in 2011 in Durban against South Africa. Scoring half centuries in both the innings 58 and 54 respectively he has emerged as one of the most promising and prominent young talent of the country. One of the greatest achievement in his short career has come lately when he got appointed as the captain of Twenty20 side as well as vice-captain for ODI of Sri Lanka cricket team. He also represents Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League after he was bought for 50000 USD in 2012.
Lokuge Dinesh Chandimal was born on November 18, 1989 in Balapitya a coastal town in southwest Sri Lanka. He did his schooling from Dharmasoka College and Ananda College. He belongs to middle class family. His father had a low income but through his hard work he has made his place in Sri Lankan playing XI
