James Franklin Biography
James Edward Charles Franklin, known to us as James Franklin was born in the New Zealand town of Wellington in November 7, 1980. Though he was a full time bowler who could swing the ball beautifully and leave the batsmen wondering, he has really clearly matured in the sport and today he is an important and very valuable middle order batsmen for New Zealand. When he was just twenty, he played his first international one day match in 2001 and the first Test Match came just a year later. Nobody could have forgotten the moment he took the wickets of established and very senior players like Mushtaq Ahmed and Mohammed Yusuf in that very first match.
The injuries of the main strike bowlers in the New Zealand team in 2001 was a blessing in disguise for James Franklin, as he was immediately roped into the team to strengthen the fast bowling attack. He bowled pretty well swinging the ball and a year later was included in the country’s test team. Franklin has got man of the match awards and this goes without saying that he has won so many games for his team.
His first five wicket haul was against England in the NatWest series and this ensured New Zealand won the game and Franklin was the man of the match for that match. The next five wicket haul came in a Test Match and this time against Bangladesh – and it goes without saying that Franklin paved the path for New Zealand’s victory there. The year 2005 proved to be a fantastic year for Franklin with both a five wicket haul and the career best of six wickets in an inning that year.
James FranklinAwards and Honors
James Franklin has received Man of the Match awards against many teams – England, West Indies etc. However, his Twenty20 performance and the contribution in the Indian Premier League when he played alongside star players like Sachin Tendulkar and Ricky Ponting deserves special mention. In spite of playing as a middle order batsmen in the earlier formats of the game, he was usually seen coming up much higher in the order in the T20 format of the game – thanks to his excellent strike rate and ability to score quick runs. The last over five ball seventeen run haul in the IPL match against Kolkata to put Mumbai Indians on the third place in the final table of IPL was a match that would be etched in all our hearts forever.
